Background On Mirrors

The Bible mentions mirrors in Exodus 38:8 and the earliest forms of mirrors were a reflection in a pond or lake.
Since then various metals have been used to create mirrors and copper was routinely flattened and polished to get a reflective surface.

Egypt favored bronze metals and Romans preferred mirrors made of gold, silver or tin.

The Romans began using glass in mirrors in 5000 BC, and those mirrors were finished with a metallic layer.
Mirrors made from mercury emerged at the end of the Middle Ages, and were manufactured for 400 years using a mixture of 75% tin and approximately 25% mercury.

This mirror is no longer manufactured because mercury fumes were discovered to be very toxic.

The silver chemical coating process that was used on mirrors was discovered in the 19th century.

Many disputes stand over who invented this process but a German named Justus von Liebig is the most probable choice due to published works on the subject in 1835.

The process for making mirrors today involves applying a thin layer of molten aluminum or silver on the back of glass while it is in a vacuum.

To promote environmentally friendly mirror production, manufacturers no longer use copper sulfate or leaded paint, and have significantly reduced the amount of ammonia salts that are used in some scientific mirror processes such as ones used in microscopes or observatories.

Ordering Mirrors Online

The internet is jam packed with online shopping sites which are exclusively dedicated to quality mirrors.
These retailers offer a large selection of pieces, made by leading manufacturers, for each and every room of the house, taste and budget.

Since the net is a very competitive environment, prices are low in general and a lot of mirror shopping sites offer cheap / discounted items, free delivery, special deals and real bargains.

Browsing the catalog is pretty easy.
All you have to do is choosing a relevant category and start examining the actual designs.

A typical mirror store would include categories like wall, floor and bathroom mirrors, in various styles and shapes.
